St. Petersburg International Legal Forum has reached Vladivostok

Vladivostok, March 21, PrimaMedia. The first regional event of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum will be held in Vladivostok. On May 19 experts will meet at Far Eastern Federal University to discuss basic legal problems arising when implementing investment projects in the region. Their suggestions will be referred for discussion to the participants of the working sessions of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum held from May 18 to 21, 2016, as reported by RIA PrimaMedia.

“One of the peculiarities of the coming event is that the organizers of the forum fully supported our proposal to move away from the standard agenda and form a new one, in view of important global concerns with respect to the development of the Far East investment potential, as well as in view of the introduction of priority social and economic development areas and free ports.

Within the formed agenda we plan to discuss with the legal and business community, representatives of public authorities the main legal problems arising when implementing the investment projects in the region, find out conflict items and probable legal gaps in the existing legislation, propose some amendments to the legislation. That is why the speakers at the forum will be leading theorists and practical men of law, as well as invited foreign participants, explained the organizer of the forum’s regional event in Vladivostok.

Among the themes discussed at the forum, there are topical issues of migration legislation and practice, issues connected with investment in agriculture and existing shortcomings in legal regulation of foreign investments in this field. Also the meeting will touch upon the lack of instruments for pre-trial resolution of controversies with foreign investors based on a possibility of direct dialog and close cooperation with the Russian authorities.

“We aim to pay special attention to one of the most important issues in developing the Far East investment attractiveness — assurance of law-abiding investors’ rights and interests active protection. Because so often foreign businessmen are scared of investing in Russian projects, worrying about safety and  repayment of their investments, and sometimes their concerns are justified.

There is a problem closely related to the above, the problem of defects in law enforcement which disturb the normal business activities. It is no mere chance, the President of Ruslsia paid attention to this issue, and as a result in February 2016 a working team has been formed by his order to monitor law enforcement in business, said Dmitry Kafanov.

Resolutions and suggestions adopted at the regional event in Vladivostok will be referred for discussion at the working sessions of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum among world-class experts: representatives of public authorities, judges, partners of leading domestic and foreign legal firms, and heads of companies’ legal departments.

Information: The St. Petersburg International Legal Forum organized by the Russian Ministry of Justice and supported by the President of the Russian Federation is the largest domestic platform for discussion of important legal issues as part of the global social and economic concerns.

Every year the participants in the forum are Russian and foreign highest officials, leading world experts in economics, law and international relations, heads of legal divisions of the world’s largest corporations, representatives of the international legal community.

As the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation “On organization of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum” dated March 08h, 2016 states, federal authorities, local authorities of entities of the Russian Federation, public associations, scientific and educational organizations concerned are recommended to take part in the forum.

The forum will be held in Vladivostok at the premises of Far Eastern Federal University, supported by the regional division of the Russian Lawyers Association.
